Operations Associate
Keep every route running on time, every day.
Commuit is building the most reliable, safe, and affordable daily shuttle service for working professionals in Accra. We aggregate private bus owners, offer guaranteed-seat subscriptions, and use simple systems to make commuting predictable. We are in the early execution phase — meaning the work here is real, the impact is immediate, and the person who fills this role will help shape how we operate.
You are the daily eyes, ears, and hands of Commuit's operations. You will work directly with bus owners, drivers, and riders to make sure every route runs on time and every number is recorded accurately. This is a field-heavy role — you will be at bus stops before most people are awake, talking to drivers, checking conditions, and resolving problems as they happen. You do not need deep experience. You need reliability, a sharp eye for detail, and a genuine love for keeping things running.
Daily Bus & Driver Coordination
- ›Assist the Operations Manager in ensuring every bus is at its start point on time, fuelled, and presentable — every morning and evening.
- ›Conduct spot checks at pickup points: bus condition, driver readiness, and Commuit branding.
- ›Be the first point of contact for drivers facing a breakdown, delay, or any on-road issue — you will know the escalation steps and have the authority to trigger backup plans.
Rider & Partner Communication
- ›Manage rider check-in and resolve seat disputes or missed-bus situations quickly and professionally.
- ›Handle calls and messages from bus owners and drivers on daily schedule changes or service questions — you are the calm, reliable voice that keeps partners confident.
- ›Own the small problems yourself; escalate complex issues to the Operations Manager immediately.
Data Collection & Daily Reporting
- ›Maintain the daily operations log — recording departure times, arrival times, occupancy, incidents, and payout data for each bus.
- ›Cross-check passenger numbers against subscription lists to catch no-shows, unpaid riders, or overbooking — accuracy here directly protects our margins.
- ›Compile end-of-day summaries and flag patterns early so the Operations Manager can act before problems escalate.
Payout & Inventory Support
- ›Assist in calculating owner payouts according to our agreed model — precision is non-negotiable since your numbers determine what partners receive.
- ›Track and replenish on-bus supplies and branded materials; maintain accurate cost records.
Rider Experience & Feedback
- ›Listen to rider feedback — on the bus, by phone, or online — and resolve what you can immediately. Log everything for trend analysis.
- ›Ride the buses yourself at least twice a week as a mystery rider and report your findings honestly.
General Operational Support
- ›Support owner onboarding — vehicle inspection forms, paperwork, and contract signings.
- ›Assist with sales activations that need an operational touch, such as ensuring demo buses for corporate trials are spotless and punctual.
- ›Step in wherever the operation needs you — we are a startup, and no task is beneath anyone on the team.
Obsessively punctual. You believe 6:00 a.m. means 5:50 a.m. Lateness makes you uncomfortable, and you hold yourself to the same standard you hold the drivers.
A people person with boundaries. You can chat warmly with a driver and firmly remind a late rider of the rules within the same five-minute window — without losing your composure.
Number-comfortable. You can calculate a percentage quickly, spot a wrong entry in a spreadsheet, and understand why occupancy rate matters to the business.
Calm under real pressure. When a bus breaks down on the Spintex Road at peak hour, you are already calling the backup while the situation is still unfolding.
Curious and hungry. You want to understand how a transport business actually works — not logistics from a textbook, but the real thing with real people and real consequences.
- End-to-end exposure to how a transport startup runs at the ground level — from fleet coordination to rider experience to partner payouts.
- Direct mentorship from the Operations Manager and CEO on systems thinking, process design, and operational problem-solving.
- A track record of real operational responsibility that stands out on any CV in logistics, transport, or business operations.
- A clear pathway to a permanent, compensated role as Commuit scales its fleet and routes.
